| TRUFFLES!
Paris offers you about 57,000 restaurants covering every cuisine in the world. After spending 10 days eating French food we always like to try something different. We both decided to look for an Italian restaurant that had risotto. Just a block from our hotel on the Boulevard Montpanesse was the small street Rue Leopold Robert and there we found Il Barone Restorante Italino with two risottos on the menu.
The restaurant was long and narrow divided by the kitchen into two seating areas. We were seated in the back where eight tables were placed around a serving table covered with fifteen plates. Each plate was heaped with grilled vegetables, bean salads and different lentil dishes. These were the items for the Antipasti. We ordered the Antipasti and an order of risotto with asparagus and one with my favorite fungi the Truffle. The antipasti were very good but the risotto was outstanding! My only regret was that I did not bring my camera. The center of my plate was covered with a velvety smooth layer of risotto, the waiter then came to the table with the truffle and a special device you use to shave this delicacy. He passed the truffle several times over the blade and large flakes of this black magic floated to the snow white rice below. After several passes of the truffle over the blade he turned to leave. In a moment he turned and looked at me with a smile and asked if I would like more. He then proceeded to completely cover the rice with a layer of truffle flakes that turned my plate completely black! This was an incredible amount of Truffles to serve in any dish. And, they were absolutely delicious with the risotto. Not inexpensive for sure but worth every euro and more! The black truffle is only available at this restaurant from November to March. If you happen to be in Paris and you love mushrooms, find this little place and enjoy.
