| ALL THIS AND HEAVEN TOO
Near the village of Cassis, where we stay every September since 1987, there is the hill village of Castellet. Perched on top of a small hill, it commands beautiful views of the surrounding vineyards of Bandol. We go each year to walk the narrow streets of this 400 year old village and enjoy the many artisan’s shops where there are many handmade and unique treasures to find. This past year, 2007, was special because we found a wonderful restaurant Le Jardin de Croque Figue. On a terrace overlooking the surrounding countryside, the restaurant offers typical Provencal dishes

The restaurant is simple, the tables and chairs are plastic and the floor is small pebbles. You are actually on the roof of the house below. Overhead the bright Provencal sun is filtered by a bamboo screen. Chef Eric Mondon, prepares delicious meals using whatever the market provides that day. For such a simple but beautiful setting the food was outstanding.

As we were leaving I asked chef if I could see the interior of the restaurant. To my great surprise I was told the only place to eat was on the terrace! He told me he opened at Easter and will close the first week of November. And, he missed only 2 days because of rain since April! Oh, the beautiful weather of Provence and the fabulously talented chefs! |
